THE AIRPORT HISTORY
The old Tulcea Airport
1946 it was established the first work field on the former bottom of Zagan lake in the eastern part of Tulcea;
1946 – 1953 they built the first protection dykes and the consolidation work and the airport building and its facilities;
1952 is considered to be year when Tulcea Airport opened having proper airport facilities

-buildings: the airport main building, a control tower and offices;
- fuel tank dumps;
- radio station for airplanes guiding;
- equipment for work field maintaining;
- weather station;
- specialists;
In 1952 R.S.T.A. “Romanian – Soviet Aerian Transportation” starts to operate on Tulcea Airport having regular flights: Tulcea - Bucuresti – Tulcea, Tulcea – Constanta – Bucuresti - Tulcea with the LI 2 plane, and Tulcea – Galati – Tulcea with the AN 2 plane
These flights carried passengers, goods (fish, spawn, crabs, knitted reeds and fishing stuff).
The statistics shows that on the Tulcea Airport there were 30 daily flights with different types of planes such as: :
